Thailand is one of the most popular international destinations for Indian travellers — beaches in Phuket and Krabi, temples and street food in Bangkok, and the cool hills around Chiang Mai — and for tourism it has become genuinely easy to visit.

The single most important fact for Indian passport holders: Thailand now allows visa-free tourist entry for up to 60 days. Under Thailand's visa-exemption scheme (expanded in 2024), Indian citizens travelling for tourism can enter without a visa and stay up to 60 days, with the option to extend by a further 30 days at a local Thai immigration office. For a typical holiday, that means no visa fee and no application at all.

So why would an Indian traveller still need a visa? A few honest reasons: you plan to stay longer than the visa-free allowance, you are visiting family or friends on a longer trip, you want the certainty of a visa stamped before you fly, or your purpose is not covered by simple tourism. For those cases, Thailand runs an official e-Visa through the government portal, and we prepare that file correctly.

Do Indian travellers need a Thailand visa?

| Your trip | What you need | |---|---| | Tourism, up to 60 days | No visa — visa-free entry on arrival (passport + onward/return ticket + funds) | | Tourism, want to stay beyond 60 days | Extend +30 days at Thai immigration, or apply for a Tourist (TR) e-Visa first | | Longer / repeat visits, or visa wanted before flying | Tourist (TR) e-Visa via the official portal | | Work, study, retirement, long stay | A different visa we do not handle — see disclaimer above |

Even on visa-free entry, every arrival must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 3 days before travel — this replaced the old paper TM6 form in 2025. We make sure you have it done.

The Thailand Tourist (TR) e-Visa

If you do apply, the Tourist Visa (category TR) is filed entirely online on the official Thai e-Visa portal — there is no physical embassy visit for the standard tourist route. A single-entry tourist visa is typically valid for use within a set window and allows a stay of up to 60 days, extendable.

The application is document-focused: a complete, consistent file is approved smoothly. The core documents are your passport, a photo, confirmed flight and hotel bookings, and proof of sufficient funds.

Where Indian travellers go in Thailand

Bangkok is the main gateway — temples, the Grand Palace, markets and food. Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui draw beach and island travellers, while Pattaya is close to Bangkok. Chiang Mai and the north offer a cooler climate, hill culture and a relaxed pace. Most Indian tourists combine a city stop with a few days at the beach or islands.

Practical tips for Indian visitors

  • Confirm your passport has at least 6 months validity and free pages before booking.
  • Complete the TDAC within 3 days of travel — it is required even on visa-free entry.
  • Keep return tickets and proof of funds handy; immigration may ask on arrival.
  • The currency is the Thai baht (THB); carry some local cash for small purchases.
  • The climate is tropical — plan around the cooler, drier months (roughly November to February) if you can.
