South Korea visas, built right for Indian applicants.
For Indian travellers, South Korea is a short-stay (C-3) visitor destination — there is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry for Indian passport holders. Applications in India are lodged through the Korea Visa Application Centre (KVAC), run by VFS Global, and decided by the Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Korea. We build the file the Embassy expects — a clear itinerary, clean finances and a genuine reason to return — so the visa is approved without query.

South Korea has become one of Asia's most popular short-trip destinations for Indian travellers — drawn by Seoul's energy, Busan's beaches, Jeju Island, the food, the shopping and a wave of interest fuelled by K-pop, Korean drama and Korean cinema. It is a clean, safe, ultra-modern country that is a relatively short flight from India.
The single most important fact to know first: Indian passport holders do NOT get visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival for mainland South Korea. You must obtain a visa before you travel. (A limited group-tour scheme via approved operators exists for certain nationalities and is not a reliable individual route.) For an ordinary leisure or family trip, that means a short-stay C-3 visa, applied for in India before departure.
South Korea runs its own visa system — it is not part of any regional visa bloc, and a Schengen, US or UK visa does not let you in. Each trip needs its own Korean visa unless you hold a valid multiple-entry visa.
Who needs which visa
Almost every Indian visitor travels on the short-stay C-3 visa, which is issued for stays of up to 90 days for a non-remunerated purpose. The common sub-categories are:
- C-3-1 / C-3-9 — Tourism and general short-stay: sightseeing, holidays, a planned itinerary.
- C-3-2 — Visiting friends or relatives: based on an invitation from your host in Korea.
- C-3-4 — Short-term business: meetings, conferences, market research, contract talks. This is not a work visa — you cannot take up paid employment.
- C-3 (medical / event): short medical treatment or attending a specific event, with supporting evidence.
Visas may be issued as single-entry or, for applicants with a strong travel history, multiple-entry (commonly valid up to 5 years, each stay capped at 30–90 days depending on the visa). First-time applicants are usually granted single-entry.
What a South Korea visitor visa involves
Applications in India are submitted through the Korea Visa Application Centre (KVAC), operated by VFS Global, with jurisdiction split between the Embassy in New Delhi and the Consulate-General in Mumbai depending on where you live. Most C-3 tourist applications in India are submitted without an interview, though the consulate may request one.
The file is document-led. You will need your passport, the completed application form, a recent photo to Korean specification, proof of funds, your itinerary and bookings, and evidence of strong ties to India. The Korean consulate is looking for the same three things every visitor-visa officer wants: that your trip is genuine, that it is funded, and that you will return home.

South Korea visa costs — what to budget
The fees below are the third-party government and service fees you pay directly — they are separate from our consultancy fee.
| Item | Approx fee | Note | |---|---|---| | Korea visa fee — single entry (short stay) | INR 3,400 – 3,700 | Embassy consular fee; varies with exchange rate | | Korea visa fee — multiple entry | INR 6,800 – 7,500 | For longer-validity multiple-entry C-3 | | KVAC / VFS service fee | INR 1,500 – 2,000 | Per applicant, paid to the visa centre | | Travel medical insurance | INR 1,000 – 3,000 | Recommended for the trip; sometimes requested | | Photographs (Korean spec) | INR 300 – 600 | 35mm × 45mm, white background |
All figures are approximate and change with exchange rates and consular notices — confirm the current fee on the KVAC schedule before you pay.
South Korea visa processing times
| Route | Typical processing | Note | |---|---|---| | C-3 tourist / visit visa | ~5 – 10 working days | Can be longer in peak season or if documents are queried | | Business / multiple-entry | ~1 – 2 weeks | May involve additional verification |
Apply two to four weeks before travel. Korean missions can take longer during the spring (cherry-blossom) and autumn peaks, and incomplete files are the most common cause of delay.
Where Indian visitors go in South Korea
Most first trips centre on Seoul — palaces, Myeongdong and Hongdae, day trips to the DMZ — combined with the fast KTX train south to Busan for beaches and seafood, and a flight to Jeju Island for volcanic scenery. Autumn foliage and spring cherry blossom are the headline seasons; winter brings skiing near Pyeongchang.
The Indian community in South Korea
South Korea's Indian community is modest but established, concentrated in Seoul and around the industrial belts where Indian professionals and students live. Indian restaurants and grocery stores are easy to find in Seoul, and English is widely understood in tourist areas, though signage and daily life run largely in Korean.

South Korea visa FAQs
Do Indians need a visa for South Korea? Yes. Indian passport holders need a visa before travelling; there is no visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival for tourism. For a holiday or family visit you apply for a short-stay C-3 visa through the Korea Visa Application Centre.
How long can I stay on a South Korea tourist visa? The C-3 short-stay visa allows up to 90 days, though the exact stay granted depends on the visa issued. Multiple-entry visas cap each individual stay (commonly 30–90 days).
How much money do I need to show? Show recent bank statements (typically 3–6 months), salary slips or business proof, and ITRs — enough to comfortably cover your trip. There is no single fixed figure; the consulate looks for clean, genuine funds proportionate to your itinerary.
How long does the visa take? Usually about 5–10 working days for a tourist visa, longer in peak season or if your documents are queried. Apply a few weeks before you travel.
Can I work in South Korea on this visa? No. The C-3 visa is for tourism, family visits or short business meetings only. Paid work requires a separate work visa, which Lifeset Overseas does not process.
My Korea visa was refused — what now? Identify the exact reason — usually weak ties, unclear funds or an inconsistent itinerary — fix it, and reapply with a stronger, honest file.
