Egypt is one of the world's great bucket-list destinations — the Pyramids of Giza, the temples of Luxor and Aswan, a Nile cruise, the Red Sea coast at Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh, and the bazaars of Cairo. For Indian travellers it is an affordable, direct, and unforgettable trip, and the visa process is straightforward when the file is prepared properly.

This guide explains, for Indian passport holders, who needs a visa, which route to use, what documents to assemble, what it costs, and how we file it.

Do Indian citizens need a visa for Egypt?

Yes. Ordinary Indian passport holders need a visa to enter Egypt — there is no general visa-free entry. There are three practical routes:

  • Egypt e-Visa (online) — the standard, recommended route for tourism. Applied for on the official government portal before you travel.
  • Embassy / consular sticker visa — applied for at the Egyptian Embassy in New Delhi or a consulate, useful where an e-Visa is not suitable.
  • Visa on arrival — available only to limited groups, most notably travellers who already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Japan visa or residence permit (subject to conditions). Most first-time Indian tourists should use the e-Visa rather than rely on this.

The Egypt e-Visa — the standard tourist route

The Egypt e-Visa is applied for online at the official portal visa2egypt.gov.eg and emailed to you as a PDF to print and carry. It comes in two forms:

  • Single-entry tourist e-Visa — one entry, stay of up to 30 days.
  • Multiple-entry tourist e-Visa — several entries within the validity, each stay up to 30 days; useful if you plan to combine Egypt with a neighbouring country and return.

The e-Visa is valid for entry within a set window (commonly up to three months from issue), so apply close to — but comfortably ahead of — your travel dates.

Documents you need for an Egypt tourist visa

The Egyptian tourist visa is a document-light, intent-focused application. A typical file includes:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of entry, with blank pages.
  • Recent passport-size photograph (and a scan of the passport bio page for the e-Visa).
  • Confirmed return / onward flight booking.
  • Hotel bookings or a Nile-cruise / tour confirmation for the duration of the stay.
  • Proof of funds — recent bank statements showing you can cover the trip.
  • Travel insurance — strongly recommended (and sometimes requested), though not always mandatory.
  • For the visa-on-arrival route: evidence of your valid Schengen / US / UK / Canada / Australia / Japan visa or residence.

Requirements can vary slightly between the e-Visa and the embassy route. We match your documents to the exact checklist for the route you use.

Egypt visa costs — what to budget

The fees below are the Egyptian government / consular charges you pay directly (third-party costs, at cost). Our visitor-visa filing service is from ₹6,999 all-in, with 18% GST already included — the government fee is on top, at cost.

| Route | Government fee (approx) | Stay | |---|---|---| | e-Visa — single entry | About USD 25 | Up to 30 days | | e-Visa — multiple entry | About USD 60 | Up to 30 days per entry | | Embassy / consular sticker visa | Per Egyptian Embassy schedule | Up to 30 days |

How the process works

  1. Free assessment

We confirm which route fits your passport and travel history — e-Visa, embassy, or whether you qualify for visa on arrival — and give you an honest read on approval.

  2. Assemble your file

Passport, photo, flight and hotel/cruise bookings, funds proof and insurance, matched to the exact checklist for your route.

  3. Apply and pay the government fee

We complete the application on the official portal (or prepare the embassy file) and you pay the Egyptian government fee directly, at cost.

  4. Receive your visa and travel

The e-Visa arrives by email as a PDF to print and carry; embassy visas are stamped in the passport. You travel with a clean, query-free file.

Egypt visa processing times

| Route | Typical processing | Note | |---|---|---| | e-Visa | A few business days (often within a week) | Apply at least 1–2 weeks before travel | | Embassy sticker visa | Around 1–2 weeks | Depends on the Embassy's workload |

Processing is generally quick, but peak travel seasons and incomplete files cause delays — which is exactly what we prevent.

Where Indian travellers go in Egypt

Most Indian itineraries combine Cairo (the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili bazaar) with a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan (Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel), and often a few days on the Red Sea at Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh for diving and beaches. Vegetarian and Indian food is easy to find in tourist areas, and the trip pairs well with a short stop elsewhere if you hold a multiple-entry visa.

Tips for a smooth Egypt trip

  • Apply for the e-Visa comfortably ahead of travel, even though it is usually fast.
  • Carry a printed copy of the e-Visa PDF — do not rely on showing it on your phone.
  • Keep hotel and cruise confirmations handy at immigration.
  • Confirm your passport has at least 6 months' validity and blank pages before you apply.
  • Buy travel insurance — medical care abroad is expensive, and some entries expect it.
