Study in Europe · The honest version
Europe under ₹2 lakh tuition. Real — with conditions.
Germany's public universities charge almost no tuition. Italy scales fees to family income. Czech-language degrees are free. This page shows you how each system actually works — and the costs agents leave out of the headline.
“Under ₹2 lakh” means tuition — not the whole journey.
Every Schengen country makes you prove living funds before a visa is issued — Germany's blocked account is the best-known example — and flights, insurance, and application fees sit on top of tuition. A consultant who quotes you one small all-inclusive number is not quoting the same journey the embassy will examine. We show the full picture first, because the embassy will.
How each system charges
Eight countries, eight fee models.
Fees change with university policy and the rupee, so we teach you the structure and link the official source — instead of printing a number that quietly goes stale. Exact per-university figures are coming in our searchable database, each with a source link and a last-verified date.
Germany
Most public universities charge no tuition for most programmes — you pay a small "semester contribution" that usually includes local transport.
The catch: The real money is the blocked account you must show for living costs, and Baden-Württemberg charges non-EU tuition. Check the university page, not an agent.
Germany pathwayItaly
Public universities scale fees to your family income (ISEE) — students from modest-income families can pay very little, and regional DSU grants can cover living costs.
The catch: The income paperwork must be done properly and early, or you are billed the maximum bracket instead.
Italy pathwayFrance
Public universities charge set national fees for non-EU students that are far below UK or North American tuition, and many students receive partial waivers.
The catch: The famous low figures apply to public universities — private schools and grandes écoles are a different world. Verify on the institution page.
France pathwayPoland
English-taught programmes at public universities sit in the low four-figure-euro range per year — among the lowest priced English-medium options in the EU.
The catch: Fees vary widely by city and course; Warsaw and Kraków run higher than smaller cities.
Poland pathwayHungary
Modest tuition at public universities, plus the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship which covers tuition fully for selected applicants from India.
The catch: The scholarship deadline falls very early in the year — most applicants who miss out simply applied late.
Hungary pathwayCzechia
Degrees taught in Czech are tuition-free at public universities. English-taught programmes carry moderate fees.
The catch: The free route requires passing a Czech language exam first — realistic only if you commit to a preparatory year.
Czechia pathwayLatvia
Low four-figure-euro tuition for many English-taught programmes, with living costs among the lowest in the EU.
The catch: Check that the programme and institution are properly accredited before paying anything.
Latvia pathwayLithuania
Comparable to Latvia — modest tuition, low living costs, growing English-taught selection.
The catch: Smaller job market for part-time work than Germany or Poland; budget accordingly.

The levers that decide your budget
Five things matter more than the tuition headline.
Proof of living funds
The number the embassy actually checks. Germany uses a blocked account — our calculator converts the current figure to rupees at the live rate.
Blocked-account calculatorScholarships that are real
Erasmus Mundus, DAAD, Stipendium Hungaricum, Italian DSU grants, Charpak. All free to apply. Anyone charging to "arrange" one is selling you a form.
IELTS or not
Some programmes accept an MOI letter or their own interview. It is a per-programme decision — and "no IELTS guaranteed" is a classic fraud hook.
Part-time work rules
Every country caps student work hours differently, and the caps change. We check the current rule for your destination as part of the file — never budget on an agent’s memory.
City choice
The same degree costs dramatically less in Leipzig than Munich, in Łódź than Warsaw. Living cost is a choice, not a constant.
Course-to-profile fit
The visa officer reads your story: does this course follow from your education and lead somewhere? Weak fit is a leading refusal reason we see in files.
Straight answers
The questions everyone asks.
Is "study in Europe under ₹2 lakh" actually real, or agent bait?
Both exist. Germany's public universities genuinely charge no tuition for most programmes, Czech-language degrees are free, and Italian fees scale down with family income — so the headline is achievable. But "under ₹2 lakh" refers to tuition, not the whole journey: every Schengen country requires you to prove living funds (Germany's blocked account is the best-known example), and flights, insurance and visa fees sit on top. Any agent who quotes one small number for the entire journey is hiding something.
Can I study in Europe without IELTS?
Some universities accept a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter or their own entrance interview instead of IELTS, and some accept alternatives like PTE or Duolingo. It is decided programme by programme, not country by country. Be careful: "no IELTS" is also a favourite hook of fraud agents — always confirm the requirement on the university's own admission page.
How much money do I actually need to show for the visa?
Each country sets its own proof-of-funds requirement for living costs, revised periodically — Germany uses a blocked account, France attestations, others bank statements. Use our blocked-account calculator for the live German figure in rupees, and treat any agent quoting a months-old figure with suspicion.
Which scholarships actually matter for Indian students?
The big, real ones: Erasmus Mundus (EU-funded joint masters, fully funded), DAAD (Germany, mainly postgraduate), Stipendium Hungaricum (Hungary, covers tuition), Italian regional DSU grants (income-based living support), and Charpak (France). All are free to apply for. Anyone charging you to "arrange" a scholarship is selling you a form.
Can Lifeset Overseas guarantee my admission or visa?
No — and no one can. Admission is the university's decision and the visa is the consulate's. What we do is make sure your file gives them no easy reason to say no: course fit, funds trail, SOP and document completeness, checked against the current rules.
