Investor visas · for Indian families
Investor and founder visas for Indians: the USA, New Zealand and the UK are open. Canada and Australia are not.
If you have money or a business idea and you want a settled life abroad, this is the page to read before you pay anyone. The US EB-5 green card is open and moving for Indians in its rural category. New Zealand takes investors from NZ$5 million. The UK has a founder visa but no investor visa. Canada has paused its Start-up Visa and Australia has shut its investor programme. We say all this plainly because families in Punjab are still being sold the closed ones.

Closed or paused — still being sold to Indian families
- Canada Start-up VisaSuspended for new applicants: IRCC stopped accepting new commitment certificates from designated organisations from 1 January 2026, so no new Start-up Visa application can be started.
- Australia Investor VisaClosed. The Business Innovation and Investment Program closed to new applications on 31 July 2024 and no investor visa is open in Australia; the National Innovation Visa (subclass 858) has no investment threshold and money alone does not qualify.
Investor visa versus golden visa
A golden visa in Europe gives a residence permit for an investment, often with no need to live there. An investor visa in the USA or New Zealand leads to permanent residence, and usually expects you to actually move. The money is bigger, the job creation or business risk is real, and the prize is a settled life for the whole family, not just travel rights.
Why the USA is the one to look at first
For Indian families the US green card queue in ordinary work categories is many years long. The EB-5 rural category has no queue for Indians as of the September 2026 Visa Bulletin. That is why parents of students in the USA and professionals stuck in work-visa backlogs are choosing it. It costs US$800,000 plus fees, and the money is at risk in a real project.
The two countries where you should not pay anyone
Canada stopped taking new Start-up Visa cases from 1 January 2026, and its Self-Employed programme is paused. Australia closed its Business Innovation and Investment programme on 31 July 2024, and the new National Innovation Visa does not accept money as a qualification. Both pages here explain what to do instead.
Sending large sums from India
A US$800,000 investment is more than three years of one person’s RBI remittance limit. Families solve this with two remitters, two financial years, or documented gifts from close relatives. Each rupee must be traced from where it came from, and 20% TCS applies above ₹10 lakh. We plan this with your chartered accountant before you commit to anything.
Questions we get on the phone
Yes. The rural, high-unemployment and infrastructure set-aside categories are current for Indian nationals as of the September 2026 Visa Bulletin, meaning no waiting queue. The ordinary unreserved category is not available for India this year. The minimum investment is US$800,000 in a rural or targeted-employment project.
No. IRCC stopped accepting new commitment certificates from designated organisations on 1 January 2026, so no new application can begin. People with a valid 2025 certificate had until 30 June 2026 to file. Our Canada page explains the routes that are open, including Express Entry for founders whose own work falls in a category.
Not any more. The Business Innovation and Investment programme closed to new applications on 31 July 2024. The National Innovation Visa that replaced it is for people with a proven record of exceptional achievement, not for investors. Skilled PR through the points system is the open route.
No. The Tier 1 Investor visa closed on 17 February 2022. The UK route for business people is the Innovator Founder visa, which needs an endorsed innovative business plan rather than a fixed sum of money, and English at B2 level.
NZ$5 million for the Growth category, invested for three years in funds or businesses, with only 21 days of presence needed over that time. The Balanced category needs NZ$10 million over five years. Residential property does not count.
We check fit, prepare the Indian documents and the source-of-funds file, plan the remittances with your chartered accountant, handle the consular stage in India, and coordinate with the immigration lawyer in the destination country. We do not choose projects, sell investments or give tax advice.
