The sales pitch still being made in Ludhiana and Patiala goes: “Invest five million dollars, get Australian PR.” That programme ended on 31 July 2024. The Significant Investor stream, and the whole Business Innovation and Investment Program, is discontinued with no new state allocations. What replaced it, the National Innovation Visa, has no price at all. It wants a record of exceptional achievement, not a bank balance. If you are being sold a business visa to Australia today, you are being sold something that no longer exists. What is open is skilled permanent residence, and for many business owners it is closer than they think.

Where families lose money and years
No new Business Innovation and Investment applications have been possible since 31 July 2024, and there are no new state allocations. A fee for “securing an allocation” buys nothing.
The National Innovation Visa has no investment threshold because investment is not what it assesses. Without an internationally recognised record of achievement and a nominator, it is not a route, however large the capital.
Employer-sponsored 482 visas leading to 186, and the surviving state entrepreneur pathways, both begin with a temporary work visa. Those are work permits, and we do not process them. Anyone who says we do, or who bundles them into a “business package”, is outside the licence.
Sixty-five is the pass mark, not the invitation score. In the 4 June 2026 round many occupations needed 85–95 points or more. Planning on the minimum is how families lose two years.
The India side nobody explains
Because the open routes are skills-based, no investment leaves India. The LRS limit, the 20% TCS above ₹10 lakh and the ODI forms do not arise for the visa. Settlement money and living costs are ordinary LRS transfers once the visa is granted, well within one person’s US$250,000 yearly limit for most families.
For a business owner the surprise is often that their degree, years of professional work before the business, English score and age add up to a good total. Indian families are sometimes told the National Innovation Visa is the investor visa under a new name. It is not. It asks for an internationally recognised record — proven ventures, senior leadership, research, sport or the arts — with a nominator and an invitation. A large bank balance is not an achievement on its own. We will tell you plainly if your profile does not fit it.

Possibly, depending on your qualification, the years you worked in a skilled occupation before or alongside the business, your English and your age. A skills assessment decides whether your background counts. That is the conversation to have before spending anything.
