Italy Business Visa — overview

An Italian business visa is a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C): up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Italy divides India between several consular jurisdictions; this page follows the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi, where originals must be shown at submission.

Italy examines both companies, not just the traveller. The sending company in India proves its standing with registration papers, six months of bank statements and its import-export code. The Italian company invites you in Italian, on the embassy's form, and attaches its Visura Camerale — the Chamber of Commerce extract that shows it exists and what it does.

Italy checks two companies, not one traveller

On most business visas the companies are background. On Italy's they are the file. The New Delhi checklist asks each side to prove itself.

The sending company in India

Registration certificates — or, for liberal professionals, proof of board membership; for doctors, a letter from the medical institution.
The company's bank statement for the last six months.
The IEC number, if applicable — the import-export code, which shows the company is registered to trade abroad.
A letter explaining the purpose, your professional status, the activities planned and the business relationship with the Italian company, signed by an authorised person whose name and position are clearly identified. An illegible signature over "for the company" does not meet that.

A letter of invitation in Italian, as per the embassy's attached form, signed by the authorised person.
A photocopy of that person's photo ID — passaporto o carta d'identità — showing their data, signature and the document's validity.

The Visura Camerale

This is the Chamber of Commerce extract for the Italian company: its registration, its officers and its declared activity. For the embassy it answers the question an invitation letter cannot — is this a real, operating business, and does its activity fit the reason you say you are visiting? The company obtains it from its Chamber of Commerce; ask for it with the invitation so the two arrive together.

Six months, three years

Italy looks further back than most:

six months of bank statements — company and personal;
three years of ITRs, with barcode;
three years of income-tax challan receipts — the proof that tax was actually paid, not merely filed.

The personal statement must be an original stamped by the bank, or an online print stamped and signed by the branch manager.

Show the originals

The checklist opens with it: show original documents at the time of submission. Carry the originals of every certificate and statement you have copied.

Issued within the previous 10 years with validity not exceeding 10, valid at least 3 months after the intended stay, at least 2 blank pages. One set of photocopies of the passport and of previous Schengen visas.
Overseas medical insurance
Minimum cover of EUR 30,000 for emergency hospital and repatriation expenses.
Travel itinerary
With travel dates, return flight reservation or bookings and proof of accommodation. Mention any other country to be covered during the trip.
Proof of accommodation
Confirmed hotel bookings.
Economic status of the sending company
Registration certificates of the company (or proof of board membership for liberal professionals, or a letter from the medical institution for doctors); the company's bank statement for the last six months; the IEC number, if applicable.
Letter from the Indian company or institution
