Residence, sponsored: the Gulf model
The UAE does not ask you to queue at an embassy: your university sponsors your student residence and runs the immigration process itself. Entry permit, medical screening, biometrics, Emirates ID, an administrative package the institution shepherds. For the student, the practical consequence is that institutional choice is everything, because the university is not just your school; it is your immigration sponsor.
The branch-campus question
The UAE's academic landscape is unique: Western universities operating branch campuses in Dubai's and Abu Dhabi's education zones. Done right, this is a Western degree, sometimes the identical parchment, a three-hour flight from home. The single question that separates the strong version from the weak one: whose certificate do you receive? The home university's own, or a local variant? We put that question in writing to every institution before a rupee moves, because its answer prices the entire investment.
Money, without romance
This is not the budget corridor: Gulf tuition tracks Western levels, and big-city accommodation is a serious line item. What offsets it: institutional scholarships that discount real percentages, the absence of Western living-cost extremes in some categories, proximity that collapses travel and family-visit costs, and, for many families, the comfort of a massive Indian community and familiar food, climate and time zone.
After the degree
Student residence converts to work residence through employer sponsorship, and the UAE keeps adding graduate-retention pathways as part of its talent strategy: machinery that changes fast precisely because it is strategic. We state the position current at your planning date; anyone promising what the rules will be at your graduation is guessing with your future.
