Canada PR · Accountants No category in 2026 — provincial nomination is the route
Canada PR for CAs and accountants: no finance category, so the province and your score decide
697. That was the CRS cut-off in the provincial-nominee round of 31 August 2026. You can only reach it with a nomination’s 600 points on top of your own. That number explains why an Indian CA with a strong profile and no plan sits in the pool for a year and hears nothing. There is no finance category in 2026, and no general draw since April 2024. Your route is a province choosing you by occupation and score, or French. Both can be planned. Neither happens on its own.

Is this you?
- I am a CA, CMA or CS with a few years at a firm, and my IELTS is strong or I am willing to make it strong.
- I have run my family company’s finances for years and want to know whether that experience can be proved.
- My spouse works in healthcare, teaching or software, and we want to know whose name the application should carry.
- I am under thirty, patient, and willing to consider French if it truly opens a lower cut-off.
The numbers, checked 2026-09-05
Where accountants stand in the 2026 draws
- PNP-only round, 31 August 2026
- 562 ITAs at CRS 697
- The route for a profile with no category. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points.
- Finance or accounting category in 2026
- None
- The 18 February 2026 list has healthcare, STEM, trade, education, French, transport and Canadian-experience categories. Not finance.
- French-language rounds, August 2026
- CRS 391 on 6 August; CRS 382 on 19 August
- 5,000 ITAs each, at NCLC 7 in all four French skills. The lowest cut-offs open to someone in India.
- Last all-programme draw
- 23 April 2024
- The draw type that once picked accountants on CRS alone has not run for more than two years.
- Provincial nominee admissions, 2026
- 91,500 (up from 55,000 in 2025)
- From the 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan. More provincial room is the most useful trend for finance profiles.
- CEC-only rounds, August 2026
- CRS 516 on 5 August; CRS 523 on 18 August
- Canadian Experience Class needs 12 months of work inside Canada. Not a route from India.

Your degree, your papers
What the ECA does with a B.Com, an MBA — and with the ICAI qualification
An Educational Credential Assessment from WES or another approved body converts your Indian degrees into their Canadian equal, so IRCC can give education points. A B.Com, M.Com or MBA from a recognised university normally assesses without problems. The important question is the Chartered Accountancy qualification from ICAI. How an approved body treats it decides whether you are scored as holding one degree, two credentials, or something else. That difference is worth real CRS points. Ask us how the bodies have handled ICAI files before you choose where to send yours. A report is valid for five years, so this is a five-year decision.
Big-4 and mid-size firm letters are your easiest proof
If you spent years at a large or mid-size firm, HR writes detailed experience letters as routine: title, dates, hours, duties, salary. That letter, matched to the correct NOC duties, is the base of the application. Ask for it early. Ask for it on letterhead, with the contact details of the person signing. Keep your payslips and Form 16s with it. The same applies to CMA and CS professionals whose roles fit the finance NOCs.
Family-business accounts: the hardest file to prove
Many Indian accountants have kept the books of a family firm for ten years, on a salary that was never made formal. IRCC needs proof that the job was real and skilled: income-tax returns showing the salary, payroll records, bank credits, and a letter from the company describing duties in detail, signed by someone other than you. Where the papers were never made, some can be rebuilt and some cannot. We look at it in the first call and say which.
Articleship is training, not work
Three years of articleship under a practising CA feels like work. The hours certainly were. But for NOC purposes it is training, and it does not count as skilled experience. A CA who qualified in 2024 and has been in a job for a year has one year of countable experience, not four. Plan the application around the countable years, and around when the next full year completes — not around the total you feel you have earned.
Funds and fees, in one place
Settlement funds (IRCC table updated 7 July 2025): CAD 15,263 for one person, CAD 19,001 for two, CAD 23,360 for three, CAD 28,362 for four. Liquid and not borrowed. Check yours at /tools/canada-proof-of-funds-calculator. Government fees from 30 April 2026: CAD 990 processing plus CAD 600 Right of Permanent Residence per adult, CAD 270 per child, CAD 85 biometrics per person, all at cost. The ECA is about CAD 230 plus courier, the English test around ₹16,000–18,000, and medicals about ₹5,000–8,000 per person.
Where accountants lose a year
Sitting in the pool waiting for a draw that no longer runs
Accountants with CRS scores in the 460s made profiles in 2024 expecting the all-programme draws to return. They have not returned since 23 April 2024. A profile with no provincial plan and no French plan is a profile waiting for nothing.
Sending the ICAI qualification to the wrong body, or with the wrong papers
The assessment result on a CA qualification affects education points for five years. Choosing the body by price, or leaving out the B.Com while sending the CA, can lose points that were yours to claim.
Letting the reference letter describe the wrong NOC
A letter that lists bookkeeping duties under an auditor title, or a manager title with no manager duties, creates a mismatch that officers notice. The letter and the NOC must tell the same story.
Treating the spouse as someone who just comes along
A spouse who does not sit the test or assess their degree leaves points unused. And a spouse who belongs to a category may be the better main applicant. Score the family as a family before anyone books a test.
Points you can still win
CLB 9 or 10 is the biggest lever you have without a category
With no finance category, your own CRS must be high enough for a province to notice you. Nothing moves it like language. CLB 7 in each skill is the FSW minimum. CLB 9 or above unlocks the big skill-transferability points, and CLB 10 adds more. For an accountant with good English, the gap between a rushed IELTS and a prepared one can be the gap between a province’s cut-off and the wrong side of it. Pick the test — IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core — that gives you the score you can really reach.
Your spouse’s IELTS and ECA are points you are not using
IRCC scores the couple together. A spouse who does a language test and an ECA on their own degree adds points to your profile. In many Indian finance families, the spouse’s papers are as strong as the main applicant’s. There are also cases where the spouse — a nurse, a teacher, a software engineer — belongs to a 2026 category and should be the main applicant, with the CA as the accompanying spouse. We do that sum on the first call, and it changes the whole plan.
A Master’s, a province, or French: choosing your second lever
After language, three levers remain. A Master’s degree raises education points. A provincial nomination adds 600, which is why the 31 August 2026 PNP round sat at 697. And French at NCLC 7 opened the door at CRS 382 and 391 in the August 2026 rounds. For a young accountant with a year to invest, French is not a trick but a plan. We do not teach French or run degree programmes. We tell you which of the three fits your age, score and patience, and we build the timeline around it.
Provinces
Ontario
Human-capital draws from the Express Entry pool
Has invited by occupation and score without a job offer. The picks change by round. We check the current targeting before you commit to Ontario.
Alberta
Express Entry stream
Has picked finance profiles from the federal pool without an employer. A nomination adds 600 points.
Saskatchewan
Express Entry stream
Invitations by occupation without a job offer have included accounting NOCs. Lists change. We verify before filing.
Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia
Express Entry-aligned streams
Have invited by occupation and score without an offer. Several other provincial streams need a Canadian employer. Those are job-offer routes, and we do not arrange them.
PR is one process. Your licence is another.
The CPA is a provincial title, and it is separate from PR
The CPA designation in Canada is run by the provincial CPA bodies, not by IRCC. Your PR application does not ask for it. You can land, work and earn as an accountant without it. The CPA becomes compulsory only for signing audit reports and using the CPA title. Many Indian accountants spend their first Canadian years in company roles — financial analyst, controller, senior accountant — that do not need the title, and work towards it at the same time. We do not process CPA membership. We make sure you know it is a separate track before you plan around it.
The ICAI–CPA Canada agreement, described honestly
An agreement between CPA Canada and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India gives ICAI members a defined pathway to the Canadian designation, with some exemptions from the full programme. The exact terms — which exemptions, what still has to be completed, what experience is accepted — are set by CPA Canada and the provincial bodies, and they change over time. So we will not quote them here. What we can say is that an Indian CA is not starting from zero. Read the pathway on CPA Canada’s own site before you pick a province.
Bookkeepers and accounting technicians
If your work has been accounts payable, payroll, Tally and GST filings, rather than audit and financial reporting, your NOC may be 12200 rather than 11100. TEER 2 is still eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker programme. No title is needed to work in these roles in Canada. The danger is describing technician duties under the accountant code, or the other way round, because the reference letter and the NOC must match. We choose the code from what the letter can honestly support.
How long it takes
- 1
Language test and ECA 2–4 months
Sit IELTS, CELPIP or PTE Core with a CLB 9+ target. Send the right mix of B.Com, MBA and ICAI papers to the chosen body.
- 2
Express Entry profile When results come
Profile built under the NOC your letters support, with the spouse’s points included and the target provinces mapped.
- 3
Provincial invitation or French category The province or IRCC decides
Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, PEI or Nova Scotia send invitations by occupation on their own schedules. A French profile waits for a French round.
- 4
Nomination Set by the province
The provincial application, with its own forms and fees, is filed and decided. The nomination then adds 600 points in the federal pool.
- 5
ITA and filing 60 days
Police certificates, medicals, proof of funds and the reference letters go in within the window.
- 6
IRCC processing and landing About six months service standard, often longer
Background checks and any further paper requests, then permanent residence.
What we do for accountants, and what we do not
- Tell you which NOC your letters support, and which mix of B.Com, MBA and ICAI papers to send for assessment.
- Plan the language test to a CLB 9+ target, and build your spouse’s points, or your spouse’s own category route, into the plan.
- File the full Express Entry PR for the family at ₹89,999 all-in with GST, or ₹1,19,999 with one provincial-nomination application. Instalments available.
- Track provincial occupation lists and French rounds, and reply to IRCC and the province for you.
- Arrange a Canadian job, employer, LMIA or work permit. We do not hold an MEA Recruiting Agent licence and never will.
- Process CPA membership or the ICAI pathway. That is for CPA Canada and the provincial bodies.
- Promise a provincial invitation, an ITA or an approval. Provinces and IRCC decide.
Full Canada PR filing is ₹89,999 all-in, GST included, spouse and children included. See what is inside.
Questions accountants ask us
IRCC chose its 2026 categories on 18 February 2026: healthcare, STEM, trades, education, French, transport and some Canadian-experience categories. Finance was not one of them. So accountants compete on their own CRS, through provinces or through French.
There is no single answer, because the province, not a federal category, does the choosing. The PNP-only round on 31 August 2026 sat at 697, which includes the 600-point nomination. Run your number at /tools/canada-crs-calculator, and we will tell you on a call what it would take for a province to notice it.
It depends on the approved body and on what you send with it. The result affects how many education points you get, and the report is valid five years, so it is worth getting right the first time. Ask us how the bodies have handled ICAI files.
Not for PR, and not for most company roles. The CPA is needed to sign audit reports and use the title, and it is given by provincial CPA bodies. ICAI members have a defined pathway with exemptions under an agreement with CPA Canada. The details are theirs to publish, not ours.
No. It is treated as training for NOC purposes. Only paid, skilled work after qualifying, in an eligible occupation, counts. We plan the timing around when your countable years complete.
The August 2026 French rounds invited 5,000 people each, at CRS 391 and 382, on NCLC 7 in all four skills. For a young accountant with a year to invest and no category to rely on, it is a real plan, not a trick. We will say honestly whether it suits you.
Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, PEI and Nova Scotia have all invited by occupation and score without a job offer. But their targeting changes round by round. We check the current lists against your NOC and score before you commit, instead of picking a province from a forum post.
Canada Express Entry PR is ₹89,999 all-in, 18% GST included: ECA and language strategy, profile, CRS optimisation and the full filing for you, your spouse and children. With one provincial-nomination application included it is ₹1,19,999. Instalments are available and government fees are paid at cost.
