Canada PR · Truck drivers Not in any 2026 category
Truck driver PR from India does not exist in 2026 — here is what your family can really do
You have heard it at the gurdwara and from an agent on the phone: “Canada needs truck drivers. Canada is inviting them. Pay for the package and go.” The first line is true. The rest is the myth this page corrects. In 2026 there is no Express Entry draw that invites a truck driver sitting in India. Any package that says otherwise has a job offer inside it, and someone is charging you for that offer. Read this before you pay anyone. Then call us about the routes that are real.

Is this you?
- I drive a truck in Punjab and an agent has quoted me a package with a job offer. I want to know if it is real before I pay.
- My wife or husband is a nurse, teacher or tradesperson, and I want to know whether the application should be in their name.
- My parent, spouse or child is already a Canadian PR or citizen, and I want to know if sponsorship applies to me.
- I spent years as a truck or bus mechanic in the Gulf with contracts and salary letters, and I want to know if I fit NOC 72410.

Where truck drivers stand in the 2026 draws
- Transport category round, 7 August 2026
- 300 ITAs at CRS 470
- Went to the four transport NOCs: pilots, aircraft mechanics, avionics technicians and vehicle mechanics. Truck drivers (73300) were not among them.
- Truck drivers in a 2026 category
- None
- The categories announced on 18 February 2026 include no category that lists NOC 73300.
- Last all-programme draw
- 23 April 2024
- This is the only draw type that could invite an FSW-only truck driver from India. It has not run since.
- CEC-only rounds, August 2026
- CRS 516 on 5 August; CRS 523 on 18 August
- Canadian Experience Class needs 12 months of work inside Canada. These cut-offs are far above what a TEER 3 profile usually scores.
- PNP-only round, 31 August 2026
- 562 ITAs at CRS 697
- Provincial trucking streams exist, but they run on a Canadian employer, usually with an LMIA and work permit first.

Your degree, your papers
An ECA will not change the answer for a driver — but it matters for the family member who has a route
An Educational Credential Assessment tells IRCC what your Indian schooling is equal to in Canada. For a driver with 10th or 12th class, assessing it costs money and changes nothing, because there is no draw waiting on the other side. The ECA earns its fee when the route belongs to someone else in the family. A wife who is a nurse or a teacher. A brother with an ITI and Gulf mechanic years who may fit NOC 72410. A child going to a Canadian college whose Indian marks need reading. On the call we decide whose certificate, if anyone’s, is worth sending.
The package sold in Punjab, and why the visa gets refused
The offer is familiar. A lump sum. A “confirmed” employer in Alberta or Saskatchewan. An LMIA, a work permit, PR later. Paying for a job offer is illegal in Canada. The visas that come out of these packages are routinely refused. Where the officer finds the offer was bought or the employer was not real, the result is a misrepresentation finding that keeps the family out of Canada for years. The agent keeps the money. We would rather lose your business than pretend this route is clean.
Gulf mechanic experience: the one place a driver’s file may really fit
Many Punjabi men who drove in the Gulf also spent years in the workshop, repairing trucks, buses and heavy vehicles in Dammam, Dubai or Doha. NOC 72410 (automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics) is in the 2026 transport category. The 7 August 2026 round invited that occupation at CRS 470. If your contracts and salary certificates describe repair and maintenance duties for at least 12 months in the past three years, your route may be as a mechanic, not a driver. We read the papers and tell you which it is.
The relative already in Canada helps most — if used correctly
A spouse or parent who is a Canadian permanent resident or citizen may be able to sponsor you under the family class. We file those. A cousin or uncle cannot sponsor you, whatever an agent says. What relatives can do is help you visit. A visitor visa to see family is an honest application, as long as nobody plans to work on it. Working on a visitor visa is the second-fastest way to a ban, after buying a job offer.
Settlement money must be the family’s own, not a loan
Whichever family member leads, an FSW-based file needs settlement funds that are liquid and not borrowed: CAD 15,263 for one, CAD 19,001 for two, CAD 23,360 for three, CAD 28,362 for four (IRCC table updated 7 July 2025). Money that comes from a relative for the application and goes back afterwards is a problem, not a solution. Check your number at /tools/canada-proof-of-funds-calculator before you decide anything.
Where truck drivers lose a year
Paying for the “job offer plus LMIA plus PR” bundle
This mistake costs the most and is the hardest to undo. The offer is either not real, or real and bought illegally. Either way, the officer is trained to spot it. Beyond the money, the refusal letter becomes part of every future application your family files.
Building a profile that nobody will ever draw
An FSW-only profile for NOC 73300 can sit in the pool for months with no draw type able to pick it. A consultant who charges you to “put you in the pool” without telling you this is selling you nothing.
Going on a visitor visa and planning to drive
Some families are told to enter as visitors and “sort it out there”. Working without permission can end in removal and a ban, and it damages any later sponsorship. A visitor visa is for visiting.
Ignoring the person in the house who does qualify
The driver is the one talking in the family. The nurse, teacher or electrician sitting quietly at the same table is often the real main applicant. We see this every week. The call is where the family finds it out.
Points you can still win
The levers belong to whoever in the family has a route
The CRS is the score IRCC uses to pick from the pool. For a driver with no draw to enter, raising it changes nothing. The score starts to matter the moment the main applicant changes — a spouse in nursing or teaching, a brother or sister in a trade. For that person, language comes first. CLB 7 in each skill is the FSW minimum. CLB 9 or above unlocks the big skill-transferability points. You then add points as the accompanying spouse, with your own English test and your own ECA.
If your wife is a nurse or a teacher, the application is hers
Healthcare and education are both renewed 2026 categories. Each needs 12 months (1,560 hours) in one eligible occupation within the past three years, from anywhere in the world. A staff nurse at a Patiala hospital, or a B.Ed teacher with a school letter, may have a category route that you, the driver, do not have. The family lands together on her invitation. You are the accompanying spouse. Once you are in Canada with PR, you can train and get licensed as a driver on your own terms. That is a real route, and we file it.
French is a real option for a young family
The French-language rounds on 6 and 19 August 2026 invited 5,000 people each, at CRS 391 and 382. You need NCLC 7 in all four French skills. The cut-offs are low because the language is hard for most Indians to learn. For a couple in their twenties with time and discipline, a year of French study can open a door that no trucking package can. We do not teach French. But we will tell you honestly whether it is worth your family’s year.
Provinces
Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick
Provincial streams that name truck drivers
Each one depends on a Canadian employer, usually with an LMIA and a work permit before nomination. These are job-offer and work-permit routes. Our licence does not let us arrange them.
Any province
Express Entry-aligned streams for the family member who has a route
Where a spouse or sibling has an eligible occupation, a nomination adds 600 points. We check that on the call. It is their file, not the driver’s.
PR is one process. Your licence is another.
Your Indian heavy-vehicle licence does not transfer
The Canadian commercial licence — Class 1 or Class A, depending on the province — is given by the province. You must be physically in Canada to do the training and the tests. Your Indian HMV licence is not exchanged for it, no matter how many years it shows. This one fact breaks most of the sales pitch. Nobody can make you a licensed Canadian truck driver from Patiala. And no PR file can be built on a licence you cannot yet hold.
The entry-level training happens in Canada
Provinces require a set training course before they give a commercial licence. This is the kind of course often called MELT. It is classroom hours and road hours, taught by an approved school in that province. It cannot be done in India. It cannot be done online. And it is not the same as any driving course an agent in Punjab is offering you. If your plan includes driving in Canada, this training is a step you take after you have legal status there. Never before.
What “FST-eligible with a job offer” really means
Truck drivers were removed from the list of trades that can qualify for the Federal Skilled Trades programme through a certificate of qualification. But a driver with a Canadian job offer can still be FST-eligible. Be careful with that sentence. A job offer means a Canadian employer, normally an LMIA and a work permit — and often money changing hands in Punjab for something that is illegal to buy. We hold a visa-consultancy licence, not an MEA Recruiting Agent licence. So we do not, and will not, touch that route.
How long it takes
- 1
The honest first call 30 minutes
We map the household. Who is in Canada already? Who has a category occupation? Who is of study age? Does anyone have documented mechanic experience?
- 2
Family sponsorship, if it applies IRCC processing times vary
A spouse, parent or child who is already a Canadian PR or citizen may be able to sponsor you. We file family-class applications. IRCC sets the timeline.
- 3
Study route for the driver or a child Set by college admission cycles
A study permit for you or a younger family member gives Canadian status that a driving career can be built on later. We file study visas. We never present study as a hidden work route.
- 4
Spouse-led Express Entry 2–4 months to test and ECA, then the pool
If your wife or husband is in an eligible category, the profile is made in their name and you are added as the accompanying spouse.
- 5
ITA, filing and processing 60 days to file; about six months of IRCC processing, often longer
Same rules as any Express Entry file: police certificates, medicals, proof of funds and the experience file.
- 6
Landing, then the licence After PR
With permanent residence in hand, the provincial training and the Class 1 or Class A test become possible. This is the only honest order for someone starting in India.
What we do for truck drivers, and what we do not
- Tell your family plainly, on the first call, whether any honest route exists, and which person in the household it belongs to.
- File Express Entry PR for a spouse or relative with an eligible occupation: ₹89,999 all-in with GST, or ₹1,19,999 with one provincial nomination included. Instalments available.
- File study visas, family-class sponsorship and visitor visas where they truly apply.
- Check whether documented mechanic or technician experience maps to NOC 72410 in the transport category.
- Arrange a Canadian job offer, LMIA, employer or work permit for a driver. We hold no MEA Recruiting Agent licence and we will never sell that route.
- Get you a Canadian commercial licence or entry-level training. The province gives those, and only to people in Canada.
- Promise that any family member will be invited, nominated or approved. IRCC and the provinces decide.
Full Canada PR filing is ₹89,999 all-in, GST included, spouse and children included. See what is inside.
Questions truck drivers ask us
Canada still needs drivers. But Express Entry in 2026 has no category that lists NOC 73300, and no all-programme draw has run since 23 April 2024. So there is demand, and no federal draw from India to answer it. Provincial trucking streams run on Canadian employers and work permits, which we do not arrange.
Paying for a job offer is illegal in Canada. Applications built on bought offers are routinely refused or end in misrepresentation findings. We do not touch job-offer routes. Call us before you pay, and we will explain what an honest file for your family looks like.
It does not transfer. A Canadian Class 1 or Class A licence is given by the province after set entry-level training. Both need you to be in Canada. Your Indian record may help later. It is not a lever for PR now.
No. Family sponsorship is for a spouse, a parent, a child and a few defined relationships. Not brothers, sisters or cousins. If your spouse or parent is a Canadian PR or citizen, that is a different conversation, and one we file.
The 2026 transport category covers four NOCs: air pilots, aircraft mechanics, avionics technicians, and automotive and truck mechanics. The 7 August 2026 round sent 300 ITAs at CRS 470 to those occupations. Truck drivers are not among them. A driver with documented mechanic experience may fit 72410, and that is worth checking.
Yes. Once you land as her accompanying spouse with permanent residence, you can take the provincial training and licence tests like any resident. That is the honest order: her route first, your driving career after landing.
A study permit is a real route for you or a younger family member, and we file them. What we will not do is present study as a hidden way into trucking. The permit is for studying. The driving licence and any work come under the rules for your status at that time.
We do a proper first call to find who in the household has a real route: spouse-led Express Entry, family sponsorship, a study visa, a mechanic who maps to 72410, or a visitor visa to see relatives. Then we file that application. If nothing applies, we say so, and you keep your money.
