France Schengen tourist visa from India
France issues the short-stay Schengen visa (type C) for tourism, visiting family or friends, business and short courses: up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area, with France as your main destination. Every application begins on France-Visas, the official portal, which produces a personalised checklist for your exact case; the file is then lodged with biometrics at VFS Global for the Consulate General of France in India.
Official sequence — France short-stay visa through France-Visas

- The signed France-Visas application, its receipt and the personalised checklist the wizard generates for your case; mandatory documents come from that wizard, not from a generic list.
- Passport issued within ten years with the required blank pages and validity at least three months after leaving the Schengen area; relevant previous travel evidence.
- A recent compliant photograph, and biometrics or previous-visa evidence where applicable.
- Purpose, itinerary and accommodation for the whole intended stay.
- Sufficient funds, source of income and return ties, using the wizard's exact India evidence list; a universal bank-statement or income-tax period is not asserted by the official source.
- Travel medical insurance meeting the Schengen coverage conditions (EUR 30,000 minimum, valid across the Schengen area).
- Private host: where required, the host obtains an attestation d'accueil validated by the mairie; "a casual invitation is not always equivalent". Business: invitation and mission details, employer evidence and cost arrangements. Minors: parents' or guardian's consent, travel and hosting evidence.
What decides a French file
French consulates refuse most often for a trip that does not add up: an itinerary that does not match the bookings, funds that appear without a source, or thin evidence of ties to India. A refusal comes with the standard Schengen refusal form stating the ground; a remedy (recours) can be filed with the Commission de recours contre les décisions de refus de visa, but a rebuilt application usually serves better than an appeal.
