Greece Business Visa — overview

A Greek business visa is a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C): up to 90 days in any 180-day period, decided by the Consular Section of the Embassy of Greece in New Delhi.

Greece keeps the business requirement to two letters — an invitation from the Greek company and a cover letter from your employer — and tells you the minimum each must confirm. The rest of the file follows the common list for India, with two Greek particulars: travel insurance is accepted only from specific Indian insurers, and the income-tax acknowledgements have to be attested.

Greece tells you the minimum — meet it exactly

For business trips the Embassy of Greece asks for two documents and defines them in a single sentence: an invitation from the inviting company or organisation and a cover letter from the applicant's employer, and "both letters must confirm, as a minimum":

the applicant's identity;
the purpose of the journey — meetings, conferences, training or business-related events;
the period and place of intended stay.

"As a minimum" is an invitation to do more, not less. We add what an officer will otherwise have to infer: who pays for what, the named contact in Greece, and how the two companies know each other. But the three points come first, stated plainly, in both letters, in the same words.

Insurance: only from the approved Indian insurers

This rule matters most to business travellers who rely on a corporate or credit-card policy. For applications lodged in India, Greece accepts travel medical insurance only if it is issued by specific Indian insurance companies, and has done since 1 October 2013. A global corporate policy, however generous, is not on that list. Buy a compliant policy for the trip even if your company already covers you.

Attested tax acknowledgements

Greece asks for the income-tax return acknowledgements for the last two assessment years, attested — alongside an original bank statement for three months, stamped and signed by the bank. Build the attestation into your timeline; it is not something to discover at the VFS counter.

Travelling with your spouse

Greece has a specific rule for couples travelling together. The spouse's name should be endorsed in both passports. If it is not, the original marriage certificate with an MEA apostille is required. Only where neither exists does the checklist fall back on an affidavit. If your passports predate your marriage, start the apostille early or get the endorsement done.

The passport copies Greece wants

A clear photocopy of the first and last pages, all visas and stamps, and your previous passport if you have one. Earlier Schengen trips that ended on time are the simplest evidence that this one will too.

Confirming, as a minimum, your identity, the purpose of the journey (meetings, conferences, training or business-related events), and the period and place of stay.
Cover letter from your employer
Confirming the same three points: identity, purpose, and period and place of stay.
Proof of transport
Return or round-trip flight reservation, plus intra-Schengen travel if visiting several states.
Proof of lodging
Hotel or rental reservations for each Schengen state visited.
Proof of financial means
Original personal bank statement for the last three months, stamped and signed by the bank; attested Indian income-tax return acknowledgements for the last two assessment years; payslips for three months, employment contract and the employer's approval of leave. Company owners and the self-employed add the company's certificate of registration.
If your spouse travels with you
The spouse's name endorsed in both passports; otherwise the original marriage certificate apostilled by the MEA. Where neither is available, an affidavit must be submitted.
