Malta Tourist Visa — overview
The Malta Tourist Visa is a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C) for tourism and holidays, valid for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen Area.
Applications from India are submitted through VFS Global and decided by the Malta embassy. Schengen-wide travel medical insurance of at least EUR 30,000 is mandatory, and the application turns on a clear travel plan, sound finances and genuine ties to India.

Why a Malta file behaves differently
The legal test does not change between Schengen states. The practical experience does, and with Malta the difference is capacity rather than strictness.
A large consulate can absorb an imperfect file, ask for a missing document and carry on. A small operation processing a fraction of the volume has far less room to do that. In practice this rewards applicants who arrive complete and punishes those who plan to fix things later — not out of severity, but arithmetic.
That shapes three decisions.
Timing. Appointment capacity for Malta is thinner than for the large Schengen states, and it does not scale up in summer when demand does. An applicant who starts assembling documents after securing a date is working in the wrong order.
Whether Malta is even the right consulate. Under the Schengen rules you apply to the state of your main destination, or — where the stay is split evenly — your first point of entry. Malta is frequently one stop on a wider Mediterranean trip rather than the main one. Filing with the wrong state is not a technicality; it is a ground for refusal in its own right.
Completeness. With a small consulate, a file that answers every question before it is asked is worth more than one which is merely strong on paper.

Convenience is not a criterion. The state of main destination decides where the application belongs, and getting it wrong is refusable on its own.
Assuming a small country means a soft check

Malta applies the same Visa Code as every other Schengen state. What differs is capacity, not standards.
