Spain Tourist Visa — overview
Spain Schengen tourist visa from India
Spain issues the short-stay Schengen visa (type C) for tourism, visiting family or friends and business: up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area, with Spain as your main destination. Applications from India are lodged through BLS International, Spain's application partner, for the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi or the Consulates General in Mumbai and Bengaluru, each of which publishes its own checklist for its jurisdiction.
Official checklist — Spain Schengen visa (Mumbai list; Delhi uses its own)

- Signed Schengen form, recent photo, passport issued within ten years with two blank pages and three months' validity after the planned departure; copies of the biographical, visa and stamp pages; proof of residence in the consular district.
- Travel insurance covering Schengen, the intended stay and at least EUR 30,000 of emergency and repatriation risks.
- A purpose cover letter, round-trip and internal travel reservations and complete accommodation; "do not treat paid non-refundable air tickets as universally necessary".
- Private visit: the Spanish police-issued invitation where applicable.
- Funds: stamped and signed bank statements of the applicant or sponsor; a sponsor letter specifying costs and relationship; two years of income-tax returns or Form 16; PAN; recent payslips. The Mumbai page says three months of statements while its linked tourist PDF says six; our Knowledge Base flags the conflict and we collect six as a completeness choice, not as the official minimum.
- Business: a Spanish-language company invitation identifying the purpose and commercial relationship, with employer and cost arrangements.
- Minors: birth and relationship documents, both parents' signatures and notarised consent.
Airport transit
An official exemption for ordinary Indian passport holders remaining airside took effect on 4 March 2026; older Delhi checklist wording that still lists an Indian airport-transit visa is superseded for airside transit. Landside entry or a connection that crosses a Schengen border still needs a regular Schengen visa.

Frequently asked questions
Through the BLS International Spain visa application centre in the jurisdiction of the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi, which covers northern India. Mumbai, Bengaluru and other consulates cover their own states and publish their own checklists.
The Mumbai consulate page says three months while its linked tourist checklist says six; our Knowledge Base flags the conflict. We collect six months as a completeness choice, not because six is the official minimum.
Not if you hold an ordinary Indian passport and stay airside: the official exemption took effect on 4 March 2026. Leaving the transit area, or a connection that crosses a Schengen border, needs a regular Schengen visa.
