One of the most common questions we hear from Indian applicants considering Canada Express Entry: "What''s the actual total cost from invitation to landing?" The IRCC visa fee is just one line on a much longer list. IRCC fees were increased on 30 April 2026 — all figures below reflect the current post-increase rates verified against the official IRCC fee schedule.

This is an honest cost framework from Lifeset Overseas, PTA-licensed visa consultants based in Patiala, Punjab. We do not minimise costs to win business, and we do not inflate them to scare you.

Hidden costs people don''t plan for

  1. IELTS round retries

Most Indian applicants score IELTS 6.5-7.0 on the first attempt. Reaching CLB 9 often requires 2-3 attempts. Realistic IELTS budget: INR 40,000-60,000.

  2. The CRS-improvement spend

To improve CRS: French testing (TEF Canada) for 50 CRS bonus points (INR ~20,000/attempt), additional certifications (INR 30,000-1,00,000), or PNP application fees (CAD 250-1,500).

  3. Currency conversion losses

Moving INR to CAD typically costs 1-3% above the spot rate. On a INR 20 lakh conversion, that''s INR 20,000-60,000 in conversion costs alone.

  4. Cross-border tax filing

Your first Canadian tax return covers your partial-year residency. Cross-border tax filing costs INR 5,000-15,000 from a qualified accountant.

  5. Initial career stagnation

For most Indian skilled-PR arrivals, the first 3-9 months in Canada involve "survival jobs". Plan for 3-9 months of buffer.
