What is the difference between the invitation and the guarantee letter?

They are two documents. The invitation is a letter from your Croatian business partner, signed and stamped by an authorised person. The guarantee letter is from the Croatian company as a legal person, stamped by a public notary — and its original is deposited with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Zagreb or enclosed with your application.

Does the guarantee letter have to reach India?

Can my travel agent submit the file for me?

Croatia Business Visa — overview

A Croatian business visa is a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C): up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Croatia's 2026 checklist makes personal appearance mandatory at submission.

The Croatian company does two things for you, and they are separate documents. It invites you, in a letter signed and stamped by an authorised person. And it guarantees you — in a guarantee letter from the company as a legal person, stamped by a public notary, whose original is deposited with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Zagreb or enclosed with your application.

Invited by a person, guaranteed by a company

Croatia asks the inviting business for two separate documents, and treating them as one is the easiest mistake to make.

The invitation — a letter of invitation from the Croatian business partner, duly signed and stamped by an authorised person of the business entity. This sets out who you are, why you are coming and when.

The guarantee — a guarantee letter from the inviting person, as a legal person / Croatian company, stamped by a public notary. This is the company standing behind your stay in a legally witnessed form.

The guarantee's original then goes one of two places: it is deposited with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia in Zagreb, or it is enclosed with the application. Ask the Croatian company which they intend, and get confirmation once it is done. If they deposit it in Zagreb, you need to know before your appointment; if they send it to you, allow for the courier.

The company signs as a company

On a private visit the Croatian guarantee is signed by a natural person. For business it is the company as a legal person — so the signatory must be someone entitled to sign for the company. Tell your Croatian contact this at the start.

Personal appearance

Personal appearance is mandatory. Build a visit to the visa application centre into your schedule.

Your side of the file

a covering letter on your intention, your occupation and who covers the expenses;
proof of employment — employer's letter and the last three salary slips;
your financial documents, and the sponsor's with proof of solvency if someone else pays;
accommodation reserved in advance, a return flight reservation, and insurance of at least EUR 30,000.

Keep the covering letter, the invitation and the guarantee consistent on dates and on who pays — three documents from three signatories are compared line by line.

Recent colour photo, 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, white background, not older than 6 months.
Passport
Valid at least 3 months after the scheduled return, issued within the previous 10 years, with 2 blank pages.

Flight reservation
Valid reservations or tickets, including the return trip.
Proof of employment
A letter from your employer, the last 3 salary slips and similar evidence.
Financial documents
Financials of the applicant, and of the sponsor if there is one — with proof of the sponsor's solvency.
