Croatia Tourist Visa — overview
Croatia joined the Schengen Area in 2023, so a Croatian tourist visa is an ordinary short-stay Schengen visa (Type C): up to 90 days in any 180-day period, valid across the whole area. Applications from India go in through VFS Global and are decided by the Croatian Embassy in New Delhi.
What sets Croatia apart is how exact its checklist is about dates. Bank statements must be fresh to within two weeks of submission, and a first-time Schengen traveller is asked to explain themselves in a separate letter of intention. We build the file to the embassy's own checklist, line by line.

What is different about a Croatia file
Most Schengen checklists read alike. Croatia's has four lines that do not appear on the generic version, and they are the ones Indian applicants miss.
The two-week rule on bank statements. Three months of stamped statements is standard across Schengen. Croatia adds that they must not be older than two weeks on the day of submission. In practice that means asking the bank for a fresh stamped statement after your VFS appointment is booked, not before.
A letter of intention for first-timers. If there is no previous Schengen visa in your passport, the checklist asks for a letter of intention on top of the covering letter. Treat them as two documents with two jobs: the covering letter says what the trip is; the letter of intention says why you, why Croatia, and why you will return.
Three years of tax returns, not two. Salaried and self-employed applicants alike are asked for the last three years' ITRs — and the self-employed for three years of the company's returns as well.
The employer letter is addressed to the embassy. Leave approval or an NOC should be addressed to the Croatian Embassy by name.
A day-by-day itinerary, not a list of cities
The checklist asks for an itinerary "with well detailed activities". Dubrovnik–Split–Zagreb with dates is not that. Name where you sleep each night, how you move between cities, and what you are doing — it should agree, date for date, with the hotel bookings and the flight reservation. An officer comparing three documents that tell the same story has nothing to query.
If a relative is paying
Croatia accepts a sponsor, on three conditions from the checklist: a stamped affidavit, the sponsor's own financial documents, and proof of how you are related. A sponsor does not replace your own papers — your ties to India still carry the application.

Documents you need
Application form — submitted in person
Filled in and signed by the applicant. The embassy's checklist states that personal appearance is mandatory.
One photograph
One recent colour photo, 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, white background, not older than 6 months.
Passport
Valid at least 3 months after the scheduled return, issued within the previous 10 years, with 2 blank pages. Include copies of the data pages, previous Schengen visas and any other valid visas.
Covering letter
Briefly explaining your intention, your occupation and who is covering the expenses.
Letter of intention — first-time Schengen travellers
Asked for where you have not travelled on a previous Schengen visa.
Accommodation and itinerary
Hotel or other accommodation reservations (or a travel agency's certificate for a prepaid programme), and a travel itinerary with detailed day-by-day activities.
Flight reservation
Valid flight reservations or tickets, including the return trip.
Travel medical insurance
Valid for all Schengen countries, with cover of at least EUR 30,000 for accident, illness, medical emergency and evacuation.
Proof of finances
Salary or pension slips for the last 3 months; detailed, bank-stamped statements for the last 3 months that are not older than 2 weeks on the day you submit; income-tax returns for the last 3 years.
If you are employed
Leave approval or a no-objection certificate from your employer, addressed to the Croatian Embassy.
If you are self-employed
Company registration or GST certificate, the company's bank statements for the last 3 months, and the company's tax returns for the last 3 years.
If someone is sponsoring the trip
A stamped affidavit, the sponsor's financial documents, and proof of your relationship to the sponsor.
For minors
Birth certificate copy and a no-objection letter from school. A child travelling with one parent needs the other parent's notarised consent; a child travelling alone needs both. The form is signed by both parents at submission.
