Croatia Family & Friends Visit Visa — overview
A Croatian private visit visa — to stay with a relative or friend — is a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C): up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Croatia's 2026 checklist makes personal appearance mandatory when you submit.
Your host does more than invite you. They sign a guarantee letter as a natural person in Croatia, stamped by a public notary, and the original is either deposited with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Zagreb or enclosed with your application. They also prove where you will sleep — with title to the house, or a lease plus the owner's letter of approval.

A guarantee, a notary, and a ministry in Zagreb
Croatia separates the friendly part of hosting from the legal part. The letter of invitation is the friendly part. The guarantee letter is the legal one, and the checklist describes it carefully:
- from the inviting person, as a natural person in Croatia;
- stamped by a public notary;
- the original either deposited with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia in Zagreb, or enclosed with the application.
Those are two different routes, and your host should choose one on purpose. Depositing it in Zagreb means no international courier, but you need to know it has been done before you file. Enclosing it means the notarised original has to reach India in time. We settle which with your host at the outset.
Proving the roof
Croatia is specific about accommodation. It wants proof that the inviting person owns the house, or — if they rent — the lease agreement and a letter of approval from the house owner. A tenant cannot simply declare that you will stay with them; the landlord has to say yes in writing.
Relationship documents are notarised too
If you are visiting relatives, proof of the family relationship is required, and for a spouse the checklist asks for the marriage certificate stamped by a public notary.
Two sets of three-year tax returns
"Financials of the sponsor and the applicant": proof of salary, three months of bank statements, and income-tax returns for the last three years — for both of you. Three years, not the two most Schengen states ask for.

Documents you need
Application form — submitted in person
Filled in and signed by the applicant. Personal appearance is mandatory.
One photograph
Recent colour photo, 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, white background, not older than 6 months.
Passport
Valid at least 3 months after the scheduled return, issued within the previous 10 years, with 2 blank pages.
Covering letter
Briefly explaining your intention, your occupation and who is covering the expenses.
Letter of invitation
From your Croatian relative or friend.
Guarantee letter — notarised
From the inviting person, as a natural person in Croatia, stamped by a public notary. The original is deposited with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia in Zagreb, or enclosed with the application.
Identity of the inviting person
A copy of their passport or ID card.
Proof of family relationship
If you are visiting relatives. For a spouse: the marriage certificate stamped by a public notary.
Proof of accommodation
Proof that the inviting person owns the house — or the lease agreement, with a letter of approval from the house owner.
Travel medical insurance
All Schengen countries, at least EUR 30,000, covering accident, illness, medical emergency and evacuation.
Flight reservation
Valid reservations or tickets, including the return trip.
Financial documents — sponsor's and yours
Proof of salary, bank statements for the last 3 months and income-tax returns for the last 3 years, for both the sponsor and the applicant.
For minors
Copy of the birth certificate, a no-objection letter from school, and notarised consent of any parent not travelling.
