Estonia Family & Friends Visit Visa — overview
An Estonian family-and-friends visit visa is a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C): up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The application is completed online on Estonia's visa portal and then submitted through VFS to the Embassy of Estonia in New Delhi.
Estonia's checklist has its own habits. The form is signed twice. Old passports must be produced — and if one is missing, an FIR or proof of cancellation is required. The photograph must have no software corrections. And the embassy says, with an exclamation mark, not to buy tickets before obtaining the visa.

Four small rules that decide whether your file is accepted
Estonia's checklist is not long, but four of its lines are unlike anyone else's — and each is easy to get wrong.
1. Sign twice. The application form is "completed, signed twice by the applicant." For a child, the legal guardian signs twice, and Estonia asks for proof of custody — an apostilled birth certificate, divorce papers or similar.
2. Old passports, or an FIR. The current passport is submitted "along with old passports (if not, FIR or proof of cancellation)." A lost or surrendered passport is not simply left out: Estonia wants the police report or the cancellation record in its place. If yours went missing years ago and was never reported, deal with that before you book the appointment.
3. No software corrections. The photograph — 35 × 45 mm, under six months old — must have no software corrections. Many studios retouch as a matter of course; ask for an untouched print.
4. Do not buy the ticket. The transport line reads: "please do not buy tickets before obtaining the visa!" A return reservation and itinerary are what the embassy wants.

Estonia runs its own portal, eelviisataotlus.vm.ee. The application is completed there first and then handed in at the VFS centre with the supporting documents.
Your host's letter
The invitation comes from your family member or friend, with their address and contact details and the intended period of stay, together with evidence of their legal residence in Estonia. If you are staying with them, their proof of private accommodation replaces a hotel booking.
Insurance from Estonia's list
Cover of at least EUR 30,000 for the entire stay, valid across the Schengen countries — and Estonia publishes the list of insurers it accepts for family visits. Choose from that list rather than assuming any policy will do.

Online visa application
Completed on Estonia's portal, eelviisataotlus.vm.ee, then submitted at the VFS centre.
Passport — with your old passports
Issued within the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months after the scheduled return, at least two empty pages, along with old passports. If an old passport is not available: an FIR or proof of cancellation.
Application form — signed twice
Completed and signed twice by the applicant. For a minor: signed twice by the legal guardian, with proof of custody such as an apostilled birth certificate or divorce papers.
One photograph — no software corrections
Not older than 6 months, 35 × 45 mm, colour, white background, with no software corrections.
Travel health insurance
Valid in the Schengen countries with cover of at least EUR 30,000 for the entire stay, from Estonia's list of accepted insurers.
Invitation letter
From the family member or friend, with their address and contact details and the intended period of stay, plus evidence of their legal residence in Estonia.
Proof of accommodation
If staying with family or a friend: proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation from the host. Otherwise hotel or rental reservations for each Member State visited.
Proof of transport — reservation only
Return flight reservation and itinerary. The embassy asks applicants not to buy tickets before obtaining the visa.
