Three pillars, and one that surprises everyone
German family reunion asks three things: a sponsor whose residence title permits it, adequate accommodation and income, and — for most spouses — basic German at A1 level before the visa is issued.
That last one is where families lose months. It is not a formality: it means a recognised certificate, which means a course, which means time. Exemptions exist, including for spouses of some Blue Card and skilled-worker categories, so the first job is establishing which rule applies to you. If it stands, start lessons immediately.
The bottleneck is the appointment, not the decision
For Indian applicants, the slowest part of German family reunion is usually getting an appointment at the mission, not the decision that follows. Slots at the German missions in India are scarce, and no consultant can conjure one. Paper, sequenced
Indian documents need MEA apostille and then certified German translation. Both queue, and translations expire in practice if the underlying document is reissued. We work backwards from the appointment date so nothing is being chased at the last moment.
Be careful about parents
Parent reunification is possible only in narrow, exceptional circumstances — it is not a general right. Any consultant presenting it as a straightforward route is describing something that does not exist.

Qualifying resident in Germany
The person already in Germany must hold a residence title that permits family reunion — students, Blue Card holders and skilled workers differ in what they can support.
A1 German for most spouses
A recognised certificate at A1 level, taken before the visa. Exemptions exist (including for spouses of some Blue Card holders) — check which applies to you before enrolling in a course.
Marriage certificate, apostilled and translated
Indian certificates need apostille through the MEA and certified German translation.
Proof of adequate accommodation
Rental contract and living-space evidence meeting the local requirement.
Proof of income or blocked funds
Evidence the family can live without recourse to public funds.
Health insurance for each family member
Valid from arrival.

Q.What is the hardest part of German family reunion?

Q.Can my spouse work in Germany once they arrive?
Family members joining on a reunion visa generally receive access to the labour market, with the details depending on the sponsor's status. Confirm for your specific category before planning on that income.
Q.Can I bring my parents?
Parent reunification is possible only in narrow circumstances — it is not a general right, and it is far harder than spouse or child reunion. Be very cautious of anyone who suggests otherwise.
