Hungary's family-visit checklist fits on one page, and its weight sits in a single item:

Letter of invitation issued and certified by public notary. You also need to produce evidence of the family relations by public documents issued by Hungarian authorities.

Two requirements are packed into that.

The invitation is notarised. Your relative does not write a letter and sign it at home; the invitation is issued and certified before a public notary. Build that appointment into the timeline.

The relationship is proved with Hungarian public documents. This is the unusual part: Hungary's wording points to records held by Hungarian authorities, which your host is best placed to obtain — so this is another task that begins in Hungary, not in Punjab. Where the family tie runs through Indian documents — a parent visiting a child born in India, for example — raise it with us early so the evidence can be presented in a form the consulate will recognise.

Originals, at an interview

The note at the foot of the checklist is short: original documents must be presented during the personal interview with the visa officer, and the consulate may request further documentation. Bring the originals of everything you have submitted in copy — passports, certificates, bank papers — and be ready to explain, in your own words, who you are visiting and when you are coming back.

Keep the financial section simple and complete

Hungary asks for four things, by status:

• employed — salary slips for the last three months;
• everyone — a detailed bank statement for the last three months;
• retired — pension slips for the last three months;
• self-employed — the certificate of registration.

"Detailed" means the full transaction listing, not a balance certificate.
