Japan Medical Stay Visa — overview
The Japan Medical Stay Visa is for travelling to Japan to receive medical treatment at a hospital or medical institution.
The application is built around the treatment: documentation from the receiving medical institution in Japan, the treatment plan, and proof you can meet the cost. An identity guarantor in Japan may also be required. Applications are submitted through VFS Global in the New Delhi jurisdiction.

Japan medical stay visa for Indian patients
Japan's medical stay visa is for foreign patients receiving treatment or other medical services at a Japanese medical institution. The Embassy's checklist explains the structure: patients "should refer to the lists of guarantors (e.g., medical coordinators, travel agencies) registered for this visa scheme", contact one of them, and "request arrangements for receiving medical services". The guarantor, not the hospital alone, anchors the application. Files are lodged through VFS Japan for the mission with jurisdiction over your state; Punjab falls under the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi. All photocopies on A4.
Documents required
- A valid passport with more than two blank pages, plus old passports; photocopies of the biodata page (first and last page).
- A completely filled and signed visa application form and one photograph taken within the last six months, passport size, white background.
- A covering letter if any special explanation is needed.
- The latest income-tax return, or six months of bank statements if not available.
- A certificate from the medical institution about the planned medical services and references from a registered guarantor (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs guarantor form).
- A Certificate of Eligibility when the patient needs to stay longer than 90 days for hospitalisation.
- A medical treatment plan when the patient needs to make multiple visits to Japan.
