Luxembourg Family & Friends Visit Visa — overview
A Luxembourg family-and-friends visit visa is a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C): up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Applications from India are decided by the Embassy of Luxembourg in New Delhi, and every document goes on A4.
The document that carries a Luxembourg family visit is the formal obligation — the prise en charge. Your host fills it in and signs it, and it must then be signed and stamped by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Luxembourg. The embassy marks it mandatory.

The prise en charge: stamped by a ministry, not just signed by your host
In most countries, sponsorship is a letter. In Luxembourg it is a government-endorsed form. The checklist asks for proof of sponsorship in two sheets — letter plus form — and describes the form precisely: the formal obligation (prise en charge), duly filled and signed by the sponsor and signed and stamped by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Luxembourg. It is marked mandatory.
Practically, your host starts the process in Luxembourg and you cannot lodge in India until the ministry has endorsed it. The embassy accepts the original (certified true copy) or the digital copy, which spares you an international courier — ask your host to send the digital copy the day it is issued.
A friend counts, and Luxembourg says how to prove it
Most checklists assume a family tie and ask for a birth or marriage certificate. Luxembourg's goes further: "in the absence of a legal relation between the applicant and the host — pictures together, chats…". If you are visiting a friend, a partner or a former colleague, the embassy has told you what it will look at. We put that evidence in date order, with a short note explaining who the person is to you.
The bank letter, not the bank statement
Luxembourg wants the status of your personal account for the last three months in a letter from your bank, original, with the branch manager's name and signature. A net-banking download will not do. Ask the branch for this specifically — a signed letter on bank letterhead — a few days before your appointment.
Reservation, not ticket — and the last leg matters
The checklist is explicit that a paid ticket is not required; a reservation is enough. What it does want is the whole route into Luxembourg: the intra-Schengen connecting flight, train or bus. If someone is driving you from Frankfurt or Brussels, say so in writing.
The photograph rule nobody expects
Pasted, not stapled; under six months old; non-edited; no filter. Studio retouching and phone beauty filters both fall foul of it. Ask the studio for an untouched print.

Documents you need
Application form
Filled in, dated and signed by the applicant. All documents on A4 sheets.
One photograph — pasted, unedited
Recent, colour, white background, pasted (not stapled) on the form, less than 6 months old, non-edited and with no filter used.
Passport
Valid at least 3 months beyond the date of return, at least 2 blank pages, plus one copy of the data page.
Schengen visas of the last 5 years
Copies of any Schengen visas obtained during the last five years.
Proof of sponsorship — the prise en charge (mandatory)
Two sheets: letter and form. The original (certified true copy) or digital copy of the formal obligation, filled in and signed by the sponsor and signed and stamped by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Luxembourg.
Proof of transport — reservation only
A reservation or booking; a paid ticket is not required. Include the connecting intra-Schengen flight, train or bus to Luxembourg, or say so if you are connecting by car.
Proof of financial means
Salary or pension slips for the last 3 months; an original letter from your bank giving the status of your personal account for the last 3 months, with the branch manager's name and signature; employment contract, or company-register excerpt or GST registration if self-employed; income-tax returns for at least 2 years.
Proof of relationship with the host
Passport copies, birth or marriage certificates. Where there is no legal relationship, the embassy accepts pictures together, chats and similar evidence.
Covering letter from employer, company or school
Original, on letterhead, stating your position, length of service and confirmation that adequate leave has been granted.
