Australia Student Visa — overview
The Australia Student visa (subclass 500) lets Indian students live in Australia to complete a registered course of study. It is granted in line with your enrolment, for up to 5 years, and allows part-time work of up to 48 hours a fortnight while your course is in session.
To be granted the visa you must hold a valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from your education provider, hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), and satisfy the genuine-student test — the officer must be satisfied your study plan is genuine and makes sense for your background. Applications are lodged online through ImmiAccount.

Yes — student visa holders can work up to 48 hours a fortnight while the course is in session, and without limit during scheduled course breaks. Master's by research and doctoral students have no work-hour cap.
The Department must be satisfied your study is genuine — that the course fits your academic and career background. A clear, well-evidenced study-plan statement is central to this.
You can include your partner and dependent children under 18 in your application, or they can apply later as subsequent entrants. They must meet health and character requirements.
