Slovenia Business Visa — overview

A Slovenian business visa is a short-stay Schengen visa (Type C): up to 90 days in any 180-day period, for meetings, conferences, training or business events.

The business section of Slovenia's checklist is brief: an invitation from the Slovenian company and a cover letter from your employer, each confirming the same three facts. The parts that catch people are the general rules — documents translated into English or Slovenian and filed in the embassy's order, originals shown at the appointment, and nothing returned to you afterwards except your passport.

Two letters, three facts

Slovenia's business requirement is a single item with two halves: an invitation from the inviting company or organisation and a cover letter from the applicant's employer. Both letters must confirm, as a minimum:

the applicant's identity;
the purpose of the journey — meetings, conferences, training or business-related events;
the period and place of intended stay.

Draft them together. Where the invitation says a conference in Ljubljana from 8 to 11 March and the employer's letter says a supplier visit, the two documents the embassy relies on disagree with each other.

Submit copies — you will not get originals back

Slovenia's general rule applies as much to a business file as to a family one: the embassy does not return any documents besides the passport. Company registration certificates, contracts, bank letters — show the originals at the visa-centre appointment and hand in copies.

English or Slovenian, in the embassy's order

Anything not already in English — a GST certificate in Hindi, a partnership deed in Punjabi — needs a translation, and the file is arranged in the sequence the checklist prints. A business file is mostly in English already, which makes this the easy part; the order still matters.

A multiple-entry visa without a year of insurance

Frequent business travellers can apply for a multiple-entry visa with insurance for the first trip only, provided they sign the declaration on the last page of the form acknowledging that later stays must also be insured.

Timing

Do not buy tickets before the decision — the checklist says so. Allow up to 15 calendar days from a complete file, and up to 45 if the embassy needs further checks.

Travel medical insurance
Whole Schengen area, entire trip, minimum EUR 30,000 for emergency medical expenses. For a multiple-entry visa: cover for the first trip, plus the signed declaration on the last page of the form.
Transport
Flight reservation, plus intra-Schengen travel if you visit several states. The embassy does not recommend buying tickets before the decision.
Proof of lodging
A document from the hotel or establishment providing accommodation.
Proof of financial means
Original personal bank statement for the last three months, stamped and signed by the bank, with evidence of occupation — including the employer's statement approving leave.
Translations, in order
Supporting documents translated into English or Slovenian, presented in the order the checklist gives. Originals shown at the appointment; only the passport is returned.
